This file contains three letters, one telegram, one note and two folios all relating to a Mrs Fowler, who had been housed by The Church Army but paid for by Miss Hughes before going into service. Included are two letters to Miss Hughes from Fowler, statements of accounts and a letter and note from the Armies Secretary, Miss E Gay, Women's Temperance Department. The Army was founded in 1882 due to the belief that the moral condition of the lowest classes of the people called for new and aggressive action on the part of the Anglican Church.
