Letters to Mrs Hughes from Octavia Hill [1838-1912], 10-16 Dec 1863

Scope and Content

This file contains two letters. Hill was a social reformer, specifically concerned with the welfare of urbanites and children for example, she helped to develop social housing and green space provision in cities and was one of the founders of the National Trust and the Family Welfare Association [both still current]. She was influenced very much by the important theologian, Anglican priest and social reformer Frederick Denison Maurice, who was a friend and fellow Christian Socialist of Thomas Hughes.
