Thomas Hughes to Mrs Hughes, Bishops Court, Easter, ud

Scope and Content

The letter refers to people rejoicing in Christ's resurrection although most now do not believe it and those that do are shy. Hughes comments that the Bishop is well and they had the Dean and Canon Birch [possibly of Prestwich] to dine and had a good time talking 'shop". Hughes arrived in Manchester and had to go straight to Eccles for a meeting of the [co-operative] Congress Board, who had decided to give Neale [Edward Vansittart] pound100 a year to advise the [co-operative] 'societies" which, Hughes comments, is a good sign.
