This collection comprises two register of cases attended by C. A. Russell, midwife around Plymouth and Bradworthy, Devon and then Eastbourne, East Sussex (15 October 1965-20 April 1966), recording the name, age and address of each patient, their expected date of delivery, the name of the doctor if booked or called, the number of previous labours and miscarriages, whether antenatal care was provided by the doctor, midwife or a clinic, the date and hour of the arrival of the midwife at the delivery or the patient's admission to hospital, the presentation of the infant on birth, the date and hour of the birth, the birth weight of the infant, the sex of the infant, whether the infant was born living or dead, who the infant was delivered by, the date of the midwife's last visit or discharge of the patient from hospital, the condition of the mother and infant, whether the infant was breast fed, the drugs given, the date and hour of the administration of drugs and further remarks of the delivery. The second volume also lists the names of patients she went on to attend at St. George's Wood Maternity Hospital in Haslemere, Surrey (5 October 1966-29 April 1967), along with details of the date and hour of their arrival at the hospital, the birth weight of the child and if there were any complications during or after labour.

C. A. Russel (fl. 1950-1970) was a midwife who practiced in Plymouth and Bradworth, Devon, before going on to Eastbourne, East Sussex and the St. George's Wood Maternity Hospital in Haslemere, Surrey.
