Scope and Content

Papers of Joyce Worledge (nee Wood) covering her career as a registered midwife in the Maidstone and East Farleigh Districts of Kent (1945 - 1976), including her CMB registration certificate (December 1945), registers of cases (November 1959 - March 1976), antenatal record forms (January 1958 - July 1964), midwives drugs books (January 1951 - April 1947), counterfoil copies of the Report Form MHN 4, Midwifery and Home Nursing Services monthly report forms (1962 - 1966, 1969), the case book submitted by her for the second examination of the Central Midwives Board, held at Croydon (December 1945), and antenatal records kept by her as a pupil midwife at the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies, Woolwich (May 1944 - March 1945), providing excellent details of the deliveries she attended, including antenatal examinations, patient details, living conditions, drugs prescribed, doctors in attendance, and infant records. This collection also contains some loose papers, comprising of a copy of her Central Midwives Board certificate (December 1945), a letter appointing her as District Midwife to the County of Kent (1947), her registration papers for the General Nursing Council, correspondence concerning her acceptance to the London Hospital Training School at Hylands, Chelmsford (January 1940), RCM refresher course certificates (1962-1967), Honorary Membership letter from the RCM (January 1988), and ts instructions for postnatal exercises compiled by the physiotherapist for Kent County Council, Miss V Ashley (c.1960s).
