Papers of Elizabeth Wells, 1959-1965

Scope and Content

Case registers kept by Elizabeth Wells as certified midwife working in the Crawley/Burgess Hill area of Surrey, including details of mothers, labour and drugs administered; together with a letter to her from the Royal College of Midwives (December 2001) conferring Honorary Membership in recognition of her 40 years membership of the College, with accompanying certificate; midwifery certificates issued by the Central Midwives Board for Scotland and the Central Midwives Board (1958-1959), examination papers set by Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the General Nursing Council for Scotland (1953-1954), her certificate of registration as a general nurse for the General Nursing Council for Scotland (1956), her case book submitted for the Central Midwives Board for Scotland examination while at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh (including the birth of triplets), a notebook kept by her while on a First Line Management Course at the School of Nursing, Cuckfield Hospital (October 1970), and the name badge issued to her as midwifery sister. Also with the collection are photocopies of papers relating to the medical career of her ancestor, John Wells (1874-1891) including the certificate issued by the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and examination papers set jointly by the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Surgeons of England.
