This is a copy of the Sep 1978 edition of the Transactions of the Unitarian Historical Society. It contains the article by John Roberts on the Van Mission, which was the culmination of the research which resulted in this collection. It gives a history of the Mission and Spedding's role in it. The article gives an account of the need for the mission, stating that it was felt that there was a huge gulf between those who were Unitarians and those who knew nothing about it, so the Mission was designed to educate rather than recruit. It also gives insight into how the money was raised to finance the Mission. The journal also contains articles on 'The Risley Case' and 'A Bicentenary Account of St Mark's Unitarian Church, Edinburgh'.
