Original manuscript of William Gilpin, Three essays (published in 1792), with extensive alterations for an intended new edition, which was eventually published posthumously in 1808. With nine original drawings. William Gilpin's bookplate. Purchased by Cyril Brett from Myers & Co., Holborn, in 1923. Letter from William Gilpin to his publishers, Messrs Cadell and Davies, dated 31 March 1804, relating to a new edition of Three essays and other matters. (Gilpin died a few days later, on 5 April 1804.) Letter from P. J. Dobell, bookseller, 8 Bruton Street, London, 4 August 1927, perhaps to Cyril Brett, about the sale of a Gilpin manuscript to the Clarendon Press.
