Photographs marked with the letter S in a circle most likely represent images taken by Sam Brewster and developed by Loyal Johnson; these are identified below by {S} after the caption

At the rear of the album are pasted a reproduced copy of Johnson’s manuscript map of his itinerary, and a printed calling card that reads ‘Messrs S.F. Brewster and L.R. Johnson, Department of Landscape Architecture, Massachusetts Agricultural College, Amherst, Massachusetts, USA. Studying gardens of England - Summer 1928’

The following items, originally inserted at the rear of the album, were removed and stored in a separate folder for preservation purposes, reference LRJ/1/4 (2 of 2):

Condition: Unfit for production (the folder of enclosures may be produced). Fragile; the album is in poor condition; the front cover is detached and the binding is frayed so pages are not held firmly. Edges of pages are fragile with many small tears. Photographs are well adhered to pages but are exposed. Awaiting conservation
