Letter from Gertrude Jekyll to Mrs Brand [Amy Barnes Brand]

Scope and Content

Written from Munstead Wood, Godalming, [Surrey]. Manuscript

Jekyll sends a plan [plan not present] for planting the wall by the carriage road and up the sunny east side of the steps; for areas not on the plan she advises London pride and Saxifraga muscosa; she can send a suitable quantity of these this week at 2d per plant; she has suggested Aubrieta graeca or any of the pure light and dark purple varieties, not the reddish colourings which she greatly dislikes; she cannot supply this but recommends Barr and Son, Covent Garden

The letter is annotated in pencil in a different hand, 36 rock pink to steps and other notes hard to decipher
