Administrative / Biographical History

David James Williams was born in 1897 and was the son of a miner. He was educated at Elementary School and Central Labour College, London. He was a coal miner and a checkweigher and later was a member of the Executive Council of the South Wales Miners' Federation (SWMF) and of the Pontardawe Rural District Council 1931-1945. D.J. Williams was Labour Member of Parliament for the Neath division of Glamorganshire from 1945 until his retirement in 1964. He died in 1972.
