The Lease for Life, dated 20 Mar 11 Hen

VII (1496), is as follows:

PARTIES:

1. a) Richard Hewis, Mayor of Oxford.

b) John Seman.

c) Edward Wodeward.

b) John Eggcomb.

e) Richard Kent, all aldermen of

Oxford.

f) Richard Millet.

g) Roger Robyns, both bailiffs of

Oxford.

h) Roger Baxter.

i) John Tacley, both chamberlains of

Oxford.

2. a) John Herdson.

b) Joan his wife.

PROPERTY: 5 cottages and an adjoining

garden within walls of Oxford in

'Bocardolane' 90 feet in length and

extending from a garden of 2 to the west

to a stable occ. by William Peri to the

east. 2 is to maintain property.

RENT: 10s.

Lovell, Gent.

PROPERTY: A rent of 8s 6d from a

tenement called `Le Sarsenhede' [The

Saracen's Head?] on the south side of

High Street, Oxford, between a tenement

of Magdalen College to the west and a

tenement of University College to the

east; also a rent of 2s from a tenement

in Oxford St. Michael at the Southgate

[now part of St. Aldates] in Grandpont

between a tenement of the Prior and

Convent of St. Frideswide to the north

and a tenement of John Eggcomb to the

south.

COMMENTS: 1 quitclaim their rights on

the above to 2.

Although this document is undated, it is

closely related to P6/43D/2 below,

which is dated to 1496.
