Lease (copy) for 99 years from 25 Mar 1861, yearly rents £80 and £6, royalty 6d for every ton of fire clay obtained, (i) William Jones of Tynyrheol, near Neath, [parish of Llantwit-juxta-Neath], gentleman, to (ii) George Bedford of Britonferry, brick manufacturer, George Treharne of Britonferry, builder, John Lindsay of Neath, ironmonger, and Rees Richards of Pentyrch, brick manufacturer. Seam of fire clay which crops out at waterfall at Melincourt in hamlet of Clyne, parish of Llantwit[-]juxta[-]Neath, as lies beneath farm called Pencaerfelin, field called Gwern Henllan (part of farm called Henllan uchaf), and farms called Glyngwillim uchaf, Blaen cwm ca and Ty lwyd respectively in hamlet of Clyne and in hamlet of Resolven. Inscribed: ‘To work the Fire Clay by means of and thro the Level lately made by W. Jones, and thro such Level only’. Secondly, (ii) may make and maintain railway or tramroad from said level to siding of Vale of Neath Railway on farm called Aberclydach isha in hamlet of Clyne, over surface of farms called Pencaerfelin and Aberclydach isha, for carriage of fire clay and all materials and things necessary for working same and for no other purpose whatsoever. Thirdly, croft with 2 cottages thereon (part of farm called Aberclydach issa) near to siding, with full power and authority for (ii) to build and occupy such kilns, smiths and carpenters shops, engines, machinery and buildings on croft as shall be required for working, obtaining, manufacturing and disposing of fire clay
