Administrative / Biographical History

Saron Welfare Association was established in 1934 with the aims of providing members with the means for ' intercourse, mutual helpfulness, mental and moral improvement and rational recreation' (Rules and by-laws of Saron Welfare Association 1954). Mr Emrys Butler was the first Chairman. Two fields were purchased at Lletygwyn in order to develop them for Recreational purposes. A New Welfare Hall was opened in 1957 by Mr I. Penhallurick, Regional Social Welfare Officer (Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation).
