Letter from Robert Owen to James Rigby

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter informing Rigby that he will return the damaged copy of the Illustrated News to the publisher. Owen goes on to ask Rigby to call upon Mr Pears and ask him to pay him for six copies of Owen’s autobiography. Owen says he wouldn’t ask him for it but he is in debt and will be so until the end of the year. Owen asks Rigby to use the money to pay his debts.

Owen goes on to discuss the Alliance Weekly News and asks Rigby to send them a copy of all his publications. He then comments upon the weather and advises Rigby to stay at home until the snow storm has finished.

Owen concludes by saying that they must conquer old society and asks if any of their friends in the Foreign Office will send their parcel to China, Japan and Burma and Siam.
