Letter from William Smith to James Rigby

Scope and Content

Manuscript letter informing Rigby that he saw, in this week's Spirit of the Age, the plans to form a League of Social Progress. Smith wishes to become a member and sends the appropriate fees.

Smith goes on to say that a few friends meet in his house in Nottingham and made up £1 for the Redemption Society in Leeds. He says that the time has come for propogating social opinions and that he feels that lectures such as the one Rigby once gave in Nottingham would create excitement now.

Smith concludes by asking about Rigby's family and giving an update of his own family's activities.
