The Naturalists Society was formed in January 1874. The objects of the Society were the promotion and study of all departments of natural science, by the exhibition and preservation of specimens, by lectures, excursions and the formation of a library and museum.

The records were deposited by the Dundee City Archivist and the University Librarian in 1982 (AccM/166 and AccM/168) and by James K Cook in 2006 (Acc 2007/252).
