Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The title of the play, Iya-Ile, translates as the first wife. The story is set around the Adeyemi family who have gathered together at the family home in Lagos to celebrate the fourtieth birthday of Chief Adeyemi's wife, Toyin. The domestic focus on the Adeyemi family reflects the broader political and moral turmoil that reflects that of modern Nigeria.
