Scope and Content

Letters and papers from a box file labelled by EF 'Correspondence with Russia 1997'. The majority of this material relates to EF's research for Pushkin - A Biography (London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1998). It includes: lists of books relating to Pushkin; MSS and printouts of word-processed notes made on various books about Pushkin; TS essay about Anna Petrovna Kern, who had an affair with Pushkin; photocopies of articles in Russian; annotated TS of a translated Pushkin poem, 'To a Beauty who Took Snuff'; faxed MS interview with Elaine Feinstein about Pushkin and translation, by Lyubov Paikowa; and photocopied MS translations of poetry from Russian, made by Jill Higgs.

The file also contains some material on other topics, including: a letter relating to a Tsvetaeva translation EF contributed to Poems on the Underground; a letter from Oxford University Press relating to a possible reprint of her Tsvetaeva book; correspondence relating to translations; and BBC correspondence relating to the inclusion of work by EF in the programme Poetry Please.
