Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Frederic Madden (1801-1873), Keeper of Manuscripts, British Museum, 1837-66, was an antiquary and palaeographer. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.

The manuscripts were bought by the Library at Lord Brabourne's sale in 1891.
