Loose papers tied between envelopes marked in pencil 'Miscellaneous Notes for Borough Customs including Manchester, Macclesfield, Stockport and Salford, etc.' The notes are roughly arranged in alphabetical order N-Z , and are separated by blue paper dividers. Towns and cities referred to in the notes include: New Malton, Bristol Waterford (this section is wrapped in newspaper from 1901), Warrington, Walsall, Manchester, Stratford, Lincoln. The notes also contain a pencil drawing and a traced map of Stratford Parish and other tracings of St Owen and St Lawrence Parish, Ludlow. The handwriting in these notes appears to be partly Bateson's, apart from some belonging to F. Clarke (these notes are indicated by Clarke's name in the corner). Another section appears to be notes written on the backs of examination entry forms from 1911-1912 for Brasenose College, Oxford. The notes were written after Bateson's death, but their author is unknown; they relate to 13th- and 14th-century history.
