Photocopy of John Brice's ledger of plumbing and glazing work carried out in south Nottinghamshire; 1858-1869

The collection contains one photocopy of an original ledger containing accounts of work done for various clients; the work was mostly glazing and work (unspecified, but probably painting) on window frames, and also some plumbing and ironwork. One of the most significant clients was Earl Manvers. The ledgers details work done in various places, mostly Cotgrave and Holme Pierrepont (including work on Holme Pierrepont Hall), but also Radcliffe-on-Trent, Gamston, Adbolton, Clipston, Bassingfield, Stragglethorpe and Shelford.

The first page gives the name John Brice as the creditor of the clients detailed in the ledger, and some subsequent entries have been annotated 'settled' and signed by Jno. Brice.

The original volume was probably created by John Brice of Radcliffe-on-Trent, described as 'grocer, plumber and painter' in White's Nottinghamshire Directory of 1864. Online census indexes suggest that Brice was born in 1811 in Bingham. A John Brice died, aged 61, in the September quarter of 1870 in the Bingham registration district of Nottinghamshire.
