Private William Horace Martin of Fforestfach, Swansea joined the army in March 1915 and following training embarked for France. After travelling from Marseilles to Alexandria in Egypt, Pte. Martin found himself in Salonika, a port in northern Greece, where he was stationed with the Royal Army Medical Corps until his demobilisation in June, 1919. The papers listed below include letters, photographs, military documents and personal affects such as a diary and address book that provide an insight into a young man’s experience of war.
