Left school at 14 (Brentford School for Girls). No exams, no option, "you just left"(Mother in laundry at 12, couldn't read or write). Main interest ballroom dancing. Also Chiswick Empire (in the gods) "Tragic to pull it down". Married at 20, war years, doodlebugs the main worry. Family [renting a thousand??] years in gas light and coke company, one brother a lamplighter, parents marked time, long service. Barges came up with coal, gas extracted. Worked for GL&C Co herself from 1956 involved in changeover from coal to North Sea Gas, when all appliances had to be altered. dealt with complaints, sent fitters to right addresses.
