School: Wood End School, only 1 in the area - Took & failed 11 plus so went to Wood End Secondary Modern for Girls - very far seeing headmistress who saw that some of the girls needed to go on "she let us all take an exam to either go to Ealing Tech for business studies or Chiswick Polytech for nursery nursing & catering & I won a place at Chiswick Poly when I was 14 & so I left Wood End & went to the Poly for 2 years - when I was 16 I went to the GPO"
