Born Bishops Stortford 20.9.1912. Aged 2 years had infantile paralysis. Whole family moved to Ealing to be near Great Ormond Street Hospital. Stayed with aunt who had laundry business at Glenfield Rd. Northfields. Brothers & father to WW I. About 1924, remembers King & Queen opening sectin of Great West Road. School: Northfileds School, sisters to Lammas School. Wore brace on leg. Left school, did housework because of bad leg. 1932 aged 20 years. Worked in Woolworths - till 7.30pm & 9pm on Saturdays. No paid holidays. 1935 aged 23 years. Married. Husband worked at Ealing Studios, Good pay. Bought house £575 and furniture. Worked after marriage. No hot water upstairs at first but installed later. Extended mortgage & coke boiler installed, later immersion heater. 1937 5 months pregnant. Husband - appendicitis - to Isleworth Hospital then convalescence in Rustington paid for by union. Later husband had serious accident - home 6 months - sick pay from state. 1938 - son born, daughter born in Perivale some time during WW II. WW II -Remembers siren on 3.9.1939 - date of outbreak of war. Morrison shelter. Sealed up one room. Taped gaps in floor. Tape at windows. Black-out curtains. Ration books. Gas masks. Joined WVS. When bombing bad went to Lancaster. Husband - reserved occupation. Worked on bomb damage in Acton.
