Administrative / Biographical History

The Dougan collection of negatives, colotypes and prints of images by David Octavius Hill (1802-1870) and other pioneers of photography was purchased by the University of Glasgow in 1953  from its collator, the librarian Robert Ormes Dougan. Following its acquisition, an exhibition of Hill material was held in 1964 .
