Scope and Content

26 loose black and white photographs, mostly slightly yellow in tone, some slightly brownish, all the images are clear. All but two have a manuscript note on the reverse giving a date, place or person. Some similar images are repeated in two or more photographs. The scenes depicted are:

a crowd of people watching a polo match at Midhurst (1924);

medieval Cloth Hall at Ypres, a partially ruined building under scaffolding (1924) [war damage?];

a group of seven women sitting outdoors, (Scotland 1924);

three women picnicking under a tree (1924);

a mixed group of five at a table under a tree (1924);

two women standing by some trees (1924);

a woman in gardening clothes, standing by a lavender bed in the garden of Northwood;

a woman leaning against a wall outside the house Northwood, Graffham (1917);

Upwalsham church, a small thatched church;

four photographs of young girls, Penelope and Alison playing in a garden (1925);

a group of women sitting on a bridge in Bruges (1924);

a woman standing by a sailing dingy in Geneva (1924);

a clock tower on a town square;

a terraced hillside;

a view of Northwood, a half-timbered farmhouse across a field;

an interior shot of its drawing room.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

Fair condition. Most photographs slightly yellowed, some slightly faded, with some mirroring, slight abrasions to edges and corners. Production method: gelatin-silver print
