Scope and Content

Postcard posted 'on the shores of the Danube'. They were going the rest of their journey by boat.

Postcard to Mrs Chibnall from Elsie Bowerman, with a colour illustration of a wooden church of log construction, with a small open round tower with spire, on a grassy mound, surrounded by a fence. There is a white border to the left, with Cyrillic script in black and red. On the reverse is large printed text in the same language, in black and red, a manuscript message in purple colouring pencil, and two postage stamps.

Note: the postcard was posted from the shores of the Danube while Bowerman was travelling between Odessa in the Ukraine, and Romania, but it may depict a different country. The Cyrillic script may be in a Balkan language.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

Poor condition. Abrasions to all corners, especially top right which is also creased, slightly torn, and weak. Abrasions to surface, top edge. Creased, and surface broken, centre. Some dirty marks. Production method: mechanically reproduced on card, from a painting.
