Sketch Book Sub Committee, 1886-1908

Scope and Content

Comprises of minutes of the meetings of the AA Sketch Book Sub Committee, 1886 - 1908.

Administrative / Biographical History

The AA Sketch Book published drawings and sketches, contributed by its subscribers, of ancient buildings and other objects of architectural interest. Sketches were selected for publication by the AA Sketch Book Committee. A prize was offered for the title page of each volume. The first three series of the AA Sketch Book were published between 1867-80, 1881-93 and 1985-1908, consisting of twelve volumes each. The final series consisted of seven volumes, published between 1909-23. In 1901 the AA General Committee took over the management and control of the AA Sketch Books. Prior to this date the AA Sketch Book Committee seem to have run it on their own, under the auspices of the AA but independant of the AA General Committee. From 1901 the Sketch Book Committee continues its existance but as a Sub Committee reporting to the General Committee.
