School Committee 1906-70

Scope and Content

Comprises of minutes and agendas for meetings of the School Committee, 1906-70.

Administrative / Biographical History

The School Committee was established in the 1905/06 session, its membership consisting of Day School and Evening School Masters, together with a representative of the Evening Lecturers. One of its early functions appears to have been to keep the Education Sub Committee and Council in touch with the work going on in the Schools. However in 1909 the School Committee replaced the Education Sub Committee as a sub committee of Council and took over its role as the principal, guiding committee for the AA Schools. In a restructure in 1967 the name of the School Committee changed to that of 'School Working Party' but reverted once more to 'School Committee' in 1968.
