Scope and Content

This collection consists of a phone book (1892) and secretariat records (1885-91) including legal papers, report for a shareholders meeting and examples of call office cards.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Western Counties and South Wales Telephone Company was formed as a subsidiary of the United Telephone Company (UTC) on 17 December 1884 and acquired the interests and plant previously vested in the UTC. It was absorbed by the National Telephone Company on 1 January 1892.
