32 original black & white pen and ink illustrations for M.E. Atkinson's book. The illustrations are all on cartridge paper surface-mounted on board, often with two or three stuck to one sheet of board, and Jones appears to have originally arranged the illustrations according to whether they are headpieces or full-page illustrations. However, some of the boards have been cut up at a later date, perhaps to allow for the display mounting of individual illustrations. Three of the drawings have been mounted for display, possibly for exhibition or sale at some point after the book was first printed.
Many of the illustrations are numbered, but Jones appears to have used a different system for numbering each type of illustration. It seems most probable, although it is not absolutely clear, that the headpieces are numbered with the relevant chapter number, while the full-page illustrations are numbered with the sequential number in which they appear in the book. Jones' original system of arrangement is followed as closely as possible within the file. The contents of this file do not constitute a complete suite of illustrations for the book.
