Says she had always admired the way Americans treat their wives, and had thought that she might marry one. 'Unfortunately they did not seem to have the same idea, so here I am still a spinster at the age of 93'.
*Manuscript letter from Mrs Thompson-Schwab, dated 10 Oct 1956, tells her that her 'charming message' was read at the Forum dinner, and that 'our guests looked up at your portrait'.
