*Typescript letter from Mildred Thompson-Schwab, written from Cumberland, dated 14 Sep. Asks Alice Williams for a message that can be read to a forthcoming dinner for a group of American women at the Forum Club.

*Typescript reply from Alice Williams, dated 5 Oct 1956, thanks Mrs Thompson-Schwab for her kind letter. Says she had always admired the way Americans treat their wives, and had thought that she might marry one. 'Unfortunately they did not seem to have the same idea, so here I am still a spinster at the age of 93'.

*Manuscript letter from Mrs Thompson-Schwab, dated 10 Oct 1956, tells her that her 'charming message' was read at the Forum dinner, and that 'our guests looked up at your portrait'.
