Scope and Content

From Haydon Hall, Middlesex, to Revd. Richard Tabraham in Lerwick, Shetland Islands, answering in detail his questions as follows;

The tracts sent to the islands were selected by the book committee. Tabraham must use his initiative in deciding if any should be kept out of circulation.

He has not heard anything more from the book committee re Tabraham's "trust".

In the early days of the Shetlands Mission, Clarke had offered its supervision to the mission committee, but had been turned down. He is now pleased that things turned out as they did.

Mr. S (Scott) has declared that if Clarke is relieved of his responsibilities for the islands, then he will cut the Shetlands Mission out of his will.

Tabraham must not consider leaving the islands just yet.

Clarke has lost all patience with the Lerwick congregation-if they want a gallery added to their chapel, then they must pay for it themselves.

He criticises the Lerwick preachers for keeping "open hours", and allowing people to stay at their homes.

The Lerwick Superintendent should have an extra 14 shillings, because of his extra responsibilities.

Clarke is pleased to see that after some early set-backs, the Church is now established in Westdale, Tingwall, Whiteness, and Scalloway.
