To Revd. George Marsden in Manchester, thanking him for his letter about the Conference, which was the only news about the proceedings that Clarke had received.
He would not have written to Marsden, unless he honestly believed that "SD" (Samuel Dunn) was among "God's elect"[See PLP/25/151]. Had Clarke attended the Conference, then he would not have voted for the successful Presidential candidate (Revd. Jabez Bunting), if he had voted at all, as he dislikes bringing politics into religion. Reference is made to the "600 souls separated a few years ago. . by political violence".
Clarke is being absolutely open with Marsden confident that he will not betray him.
He makes detailed recommendations with regard to stations in the Shetland Islands.
