Louisa Olive, Leah Jones and Blodwen Hughes Collection

Scope and Content

This collection of documents includes a family tree, testimonials, journals, personal letters and notebooks belonging to Louisa Olive [b.1894, daughter of Elias Jones and L. Sarah Price] and Leah Jones who originated from [Bangor]. They became teachers in English and geography respectively and retired to Craig-y-don, Llandudno.

From the journals and note-books we learn that they were keen travellers and quite adventurous for their time. They travelled widely from the 1920s until well into the 1960s and were fond of cruises. The letters illustrate the high regard in which they were held by fellow teachers. There is also mention of a brother, John, who seems to have been around in their retirement.

Also in this collection are documents relating to Blodwen Williams who became Mrs B. Hughes. She trained as a nurse and became matron of the C. and A. Hospital, Bangor. It would appear [Leah Jones] was a friend of Blodwen Hughes and possibly they lived together [after Mr Hughes died] in Llandudno.
