Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Blizzard was a newspaper produced for members of the British National Antarctic Expedition, 1901-1904 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). Ernest Henry Shackleton edited it during the winter months of 1902 at Hut Point. Shackleton was so successful in persuading his colleagues to contribute copy to the official expedition newspaper The South Polar Times, that more contributions were received than could be included, The Blizzard was launched for material deemed not quite appropriate for the Times. In comparison with its official counterpart, The Blizzard was more facetious and satirical, the cover reading 'Never mind the Blizzard. I'm all right.'
