Administrative / Biographical History

The Office Machinery Users' Association was established in 1915/16 by Prof. Lawrence R. Dicksee, an accountant and university lecturer, as a forum for the exchange of experience and ideas on the use of office equipment and systems. The management aspect came to assume greater significance by the early 1930s and in 1932 the Office Management Association was founded. The two organisations existed in parallel until they joined in 1935/6. Further name changes occurred : in 1960, to the Institute of Office Management, and in 1972 to the present title, the Institute of Administrative Management.
