Inscription in Arabic, with names and dates in English; English translation on back - above Sir Denison: 'When life comes to an end, what matter whether it be Baghdad or Balkh? When the cup of life is full, what matters whether it be sweet or bitter' from a quatrain of Omar Khayyam, and above Lady Ross: 'She was not only my friend, nay, the memorial of my life.'
