The Governing Body was constituted in the initial Charter of Incorporation of the School of Oriental Studies and held its first meeting on 22 June 1916.
The Governing Body has the power to create and amend Standing Orders and has overall responsibility for defining the system of governance within the School. All other committees in the School report into the Governing Body either directly or indirectly.
For further information on the functions of Governing Body, see SOAS's Charter and Standing Orders, available on the SOAS website.
