Correspondence and other papers relating to fire precautions during the Second World War at Sadler’s Wells and the Old Vic. Mostly this relates to the provision of firewatching at the theatres. This required the staff at Sadler’s Wells and the Old Vic (unless exempt, for example due to age or medical reasons) to be placed on the rota as fire guards. Other items include circular letters concerning fire precautions (from Finsbury Borough Council and Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth), government leaflet regarding phosphorus bombs, list of Old Vic and Sadler’s Wells staff in London (with details of date of birth and where they were firewatching)
