Season brochures

Scope and Content

Leaflets, flyers and brochures detailing the calendar of performances at the theatre (1930s leaflets also contain details of performances at the Old Vic Theatre). The format of these varies over time and the information contained is greater in some than others. The first season leaflets were the green flyers produced in the 1930s which listed the events of the season at both the Old Vic and Sadler’s Wells. After the Second World War, the flyers and leaflets (no longer green) focussed solely on Sadler’s Wells giving space to add details of the principal artists involved in each production. From about … to the 1980s, there are few season leaflets, possibly reflecting the change in the theatre to one which received productions from outside companies By the 1990s to the present day, thicker brochures were being produced including summary descriptions about each production and its company. These were generally produced in addition to leaflets advertising individual productions. Sadler’s Wells Opera at the London Coliseum after 1968 season leaflets are not included in this series, see S/SWT/…
