Scope and Content

Five costume designs for various ballets outlined in pencil and painted in watercolour. Notated with comments about the characters' costumes.

Two costume designs for Sleeping Beauty. One design is for the 16 nymphs dancing with Princess Aurora , in Act II, Scene 1 Apparition. A list of the names of the 'nymphs' is written on the design. A swatch of pale blue fabric from John Lewis is attached. Another design is of the White Cat in Act III. The costume has a satin bodice, with white rabbit fur trim, and red sequins around the bottom of the skirt.

One costume design by Oliver Messel for Sabrina in the ballet Comus, with choreography by Helpmann, music by Purcell, and designs. Premiered 14 Jan. 1942 by Sadler's Wells Ballet at the New Theatre, London, with Helpmann, Fonteyn, J. Hart, and Paltenghi. Design has notes about costume 'Bodice calico painted', 'back same except no decoration on bodice', 'pale blue silk organdie sprayed green & blue'.

One costume design for a male role in 'The Little Mermaid'. The character is dressed in white trousers, and shirt, a black and white waistcoat and a black cape with orange lining.

One costume design by Peter Rice for the roles of Angèle Didier and Count René of Luxembourg in the production of the operetta The Count of Luxembourg dated 1982. Performed in 1983 at Sadler's Wells Theatre by the New Sadler's Wells Opera.
