Scope and Content

Correspondence between the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust and the Sadler’s Wells Fund. The correspondence relates to the support provided by the trust to fund the building of Sadler’s Wells Theatre, the agreement between (see folder 1.15 Folder 2 for original agreement), the administration and other matters concerning the theatre and the financial status of the theatre after opening. Most of the correspondence is between J.M. Mitchell (Secretary, Carnegie United Kingdom Trust) and R.P.P. Rowe (Treasurer, Sadler’s Well Fund and Secretary, Sadler’s Wells Committee). Most items date between 1925 and 1933. Other items include copy of agreement between the Sadler’s Wells Fund and Governing Body of the Royal Victoria Hall Foundation (Old Vic Governors), report by Nigel Playfair and Walter Payne for the Carnegie Trust about the theatre and its finances.
