Correspondence and papers relating to the TUC General Council's study on "Trade Union Structure and Closer Unity", initiated in 1943. The final report recommended more mergers of existing unions, including those in the cotton industry. Amalgamation officials were generally opposed to this. The file also contains papers relating to the earlier, failed attempt in 1919-1920 to merge the cotton unions into a general federation for collective bargaining purposes.
