Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Lilias Trotter was a diligent diary writer, and in her diaries kept a record of the activities of the Algiers Mission Band. Material from these diaries was distilled for the benefit of supporters at home, and formed the basis of publications like the Journals, Resumés, and annual Stories. Personal insights and reflections on spiritual warfare are also included. The earliest diaries are handwritten and often illustrated with exquisite miniature watercolours of landscapes and figures. She also includes photographs and other inserts. Lilias Trotter continued to keep her diary throughout her long ministry. Even on her deathbed she was writing, albeit with difficulty and in pencil.
