Born in  into farming family; educated at Berkhamstead School; joined Wiltshire Regt, Territorial Army, 1924; studied agriculture at Reading University, 1924-1925, and in Argentina, 1936-1937; served with Wiltshire Regt in UK, 1939-1943, and India and Burma,1943-1945; died in 1982.
