Statement by the trustees of the almshouse to the Justices

Scope and Content

STATEMENT by the trustees of the almshouse to the Justices explaining that in 1800, the almshouse being in a very bad state of repair, it was decided to keep one chamber vacant and to use the money for repairs. So that there should be no jealousy among the four parishes included in the charity lots were drawn to decide which parish should forfeit its chamber. The lot fell to Llanffinan. Since the death of the pauper who inhabited that chamber, it had been kept vacant and the almshouse was now in a reasonable state of repair. The trustees requested that they should continue this practice so that coal could be bought for the paupers every year. They received no parish relief and the £6 p. a. they had from the charity was very insufficient. They would also be able to build up a fund for any future repairs.
