Scope and Content

Each Union was financially responsible for the relief of its own poor, those who had ‘settlement’ there. Paupers who were chargeable to (i.e. had settlement in) a Union outside that in which they were claiming relief could be removed, or the expenses incurred in their relief could be charged to their Union of settlement. Invoices and receipts for payments made by the Cardiff Union in respect of paupers with settlement in the Cardiff Union relieved by the following Unions (recording names of paupers): Axbridge; Bridgend and Cowbridge; Clifton; Liverpool; Neath; Newport; Pembroke; Pontypridd
